OpenOffice.org gtk2 Theme

This page will describe how you can use some of Gnome's gtk2 icons with OpenOffice.org 1.1 instead of the default Icons. Currently, OpenOffice.org has a few limitations in its themeing capabilities, which should be addressed in it's next release. These include:

Here is a screenshot of what this theme looks like under Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Workstation.

OpenOffice.org Writer with gtk2 Theme

Basic Instructions

To get this theme to work, make sure you have a directory called soffice.cfg located at ~OOOpath/user/config/soffice.cfg - If you do not have the directory, just create it at that location. Then just download this zip file and extract it into the soffice.cfg directory. By default it will use icons with a grey background, which works when using the standard windows apperance theme with Microsoft Windows. I have included a few other background colors with the file, just rename the file in genBitmaps you want to use to to "userimages.bmp".

Note: make sure you disable the "quickstarter" feature to allow OpenOffice.org to use the new icons.

Advanced Instructions

If you want to edit this theme, create a new theme, or change the background color of this theme, download this file. It contains all of the icons, instructions and a nearly complete slot list to allow you to create your own OpenOffice.org theme.

Notes

This theme is missing a few icons which I cannot find, the "Open form in design mode" icon and all of the new document icons. Once I find these I will update this theme. Also, there is the possibility of using icons for other menu items, I didn't include them in this theme because neither the standard OpenOffice.org version nor the Ximian/Debian OpenOffice.org version had any.

If you do not like the huge icons in the menus, you can disable them by unchecking "Show icons in menus" under the OpenOffice.org View options.
